She came to you
in a tangle of poetry and lush wine
hemmed with smiles
bruised from the travel
where freeway potholes flung thoughts of you
at her eyes
against her bones
she carefully folded herself
into borrowed arms
this was your allocation of time
a delicate language
that spilled into her
and held her against your chest
as you slept in the sky
she made her residence
behind your eyes, crushed beside sadness
so that everywhere you look
reflects moments of her
trying to keep her
is like trying to hold wind
You live in two worlds
stolen beauty, solid love
and leave her
still smiling.
